Sneak Preview: Looking To The Future With A New Breezy Logo

The future looks bright as Breezy races ahead with a new corporate logo.

As we head into the weekend, we thought you'd enjoy a preview of our new modern logo and design direction.

Did we dislike our original logo? No! Actually, we are all quite fond of it and feel it has served us well over the last couple years.  But like any forward thinking brand, we think change is good - and we believe our new logo clarifies, and launches Breezy into our next phase of growth.

We will miss the always enjoyable musings about our original logo, including “It’s Breezy! Easy!”, “Are you sailors?”, “Are you a clean energy [wind] company?”, “Are you a Cloud provider?”, “Life should be Breezy!” and my personal favorite: “Your logo just makes me happy when I see it.” Now I can’t argue with that one, so why make the change?

Changing your corporate logo or tagline is not something you do lightly, no matter how big or small your business. It is the visual representation to the world at large of who you are as a company - including employees, products, services and reputation.

I’m sure, at this very moment, you can rattle off a few brands that have changed logos or taglines for better or worse: Apple, Pepsi-Cola, Shell, Ford Motor, Starbucks and Microsoft all come to mind. (And for those interested in the art and science of logo design, here’s a cool blog post that looks at the transformation of well known company logos over time: http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/logo-evolution/.)

In the two years since our original logo was developed, Breezy has grown to become the leading mobile printing platform for the security minded enterprise around the world.  As our base of global enterprise customers and technology partners has grown, we felt this was a great time to strengthen and position our logo with our future direction in focus.

Sarun Pinyarat, a new design intern at Breezy, was excited to explore visual opportunities that highlight the brand and our key business elements: secure, mobile, print, cloud, integrated system, easy to use, and of course our name, Breezy.

The new logo needs to work across multiple formats, including web, print, mobile app icons across multiple devices on iOS, Android and Blackberry, quick launch icons and system tray icons  - and it needs to be uniquely and easily identifiable as Breezy.

Here’s a brief snapshot of the visual journey Sarun took before arriving at the final design:

breezy logo evolution

While the image of a cloud printing a sheet of paper is not exactly new, the visual solution Sarun came up with captures the key markers of Breezy’s business, and graphically indicates some differences from our competitors.

All the elements of the logo are interconnected, and can be read clockwise as a cycle: from the beginning of the process – “b”, up to the cloud, then down to the end – “y”, the outcome is a securely printed page. Since the word “breezy” is among very few that can provide such a seamless form, it reaffirms exactly who we are:

The world’s leading provider of fully integrated, secure mobile printing.

The interconnected aspect of the logo is a key differentiator of Breezy's platform in relation to our competitors.  We believe the ecosystem is as important as the app in providing the user with a secure, functional, seamless experience. Breezy integrates with leading mobile security platforms, identity federation companies and pull print providers to provide a cohesive and secure end-to-end experience.

Mobile printing in a business setting is rarely a standalone event. The user needs to access secure information across various types of apps and devices, and then securely make the information available to Breezy for encryption and transmission to the printer of choice. Breezy ensures all these pieces of the puzzle work seamlessly behind the scenes, allowing the user to print easily, when and where they need to, from any mobile device.

You'll be seeing the new logo soon across our website, documentation and mobile apps.  We hope you like it!

5 Benefits Of Pull Printing For The Mobile Enterprise

Breezy's Secure Mobile Print Platform Supports Leading Enterprise Pull Print Systems.

Oakland, CA, March 14, 2013 - A question we hear often at Breezy is, “What is pull print and what does it do?” The reality is the vast majority of people we talk with have actually been participants in a “pull print” activity without knowing it.

So, what am I talking about? Pull Printing is a term used to describe a print function that enables a user’s print job (file) to be held on a server until the user performs some type of authentication at the actual printer location which then releases the print job to the printer.

Pull Printing, Pull Print Systems

User authentication is simply the act of identifying to the pull print system that the user has the authorization to release the actual file to the printer to be printed.

Where have you likely seen this type of pull print functionality? It is common practice within healthcare, education, legal services, and many businesses to require users to swipe or enter their ID badge or ID number into a device attached to the printer. This authorizes and enables the local printer to pull the file that is being held on the server and actually print it.

Pull Printing is also commonly used in public libraries and on university campuses where both authentication and payment may be required to print a file. The user is first required to swipe or enter a library card or student ID number at the printer location and then is prompted for payment based on the number of pages being printed. Payment options may vary to include coins and bills, credit/debit cards or a third-party system.

Breezy uses pull printing within the app when a user chooses “Nearby Printers” to GPS locate and print to the nearest Breezy Partner Network location. When printing to a nearby FedEx Office location the user receives a release code in the recently printed folder. The release code must be presented to the staff at the FedEx Office location in order to release and receive the printed document.

Why does pull printing matter and how does it benefit you and your information?  Let’s look at 5 primary benefits:

  1. Security: Companies utilize pull print systems to ensure an additional layer of security for the user and their corporate data. By requiring authentication at the printer location, the user is physically authorizing access to the privileged information and is present to receive and pick up the document.

  2. Waste Reduction: How many times have you walked over to a printer and found a stack of printed documents that have been sitting there for days? Another favorite - the catch tray wasn’t open so now pages are strewn about the floor for all to read. With Pull Printing the print job is not instantly released to the printer. It waits on a server and has a timer associated with the job. If the user doesn’t physically authenticate and release the print job from the server to the printer within a set period of time the print job “times out” and is deleted. The timer is an additional security feature that ensures unprinted files are not sitting on the print server indefinitely.

  3. Cost Control: In addition to the waste reduction of unintended prints or never retrieved page output, pull print systems can set user permissions which determine the printers and finish options available. This allows a company to control user access to the large format, full color, Xerox MFP using heavy paper stock and instead direct user access to the black and white printer with draft quality output on low quality paper.

  4. Improved Productivity: Pull print systems can route a print job from the print server to any number of networked printers within the company, allowing the user to authorize and release the print job to the nearest located printer.

  5. Reduced Equipment: Because the print server can send print jobs to multiple printers, businesses can centralize printer locations to service more employees with fewer actual printers.

Breezy’s secure mobile print platform supports pull print systems from Equitrac, GoPrint Systems, PaperCut, Pcounter, Pharos Systems, Ringdale’s FollowMe and Levi, Ray & Shoup (LRS), among others. This ensures that regardless of the pull print system in place, the user can print using their mobile device and can authenticate with the appropriate pull mechanism across the organization.

The mobile workforce gains the ability to simply and securely access and print business information whenever and wherever it’s needed. Breezy’s secure mobile platform expands the productivity of an enterprise's existing print infrastructure while allowing the IT administrator to maintain the pull print costing and security authentication benefits at the local printer level.

User Story: Breezy Saves A Date Night

Rock On, Breezy! You Saved The Show And My Date Night!

Oakland, California, March 08, 2013 - A funny thing happened on my walk home from my local BART train station the other night. I was carrying a number of items in my hands that identified Breezy, the company where I work and I was shuffling up the block towards The Ramen Shop, which is the new “Hot Spot” restaurant in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland when all of a sudden this guy from a crowd of hipsters waiting for their table shouts out, “Yo, Breezy, you guys rock!”

I’ll admit, I think what we do at Breezy is pretty cool but getting a “You guys rock!” exclamation from a skinny jean-wearing, mustachioed hipster waiting for his Ramen fix was certainly a first, considering Breezy is recognized as the world’s leading secure mobile printing platform.

With equal parts humor and curiosity brewing, I stopped at the gaggle of hipsters and asked this guy, “How do you know about Breezy and what would make you shout out at me, 'Breezy rocks'?”  The guy started laughing and said, “You guys totally saved my date with my wife the other night!”

Completely intrigued I asked if he’d give me the skinny on how Breezy actually saved his date night. This guy began to tell me how he’d arranged a fun night that was to include dinner and a concert for him and his wife in San Francisco.  Their evening started off without a hitch as they enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks at Nopa on Divisadero Street and following their meal planned on enjoying some live music from a band they loved (whose name I’ve forgotten) playing in a venue nearby.

The guy proceeds to tell me how he had purchased the tickets for the show online and being “green” and all, chose not to print out the tickets, in favor of just using his “e-tickets” on his phone.  So he and his wife show up at the venue, he grabs his phone and shows the woman at the ticket stand the image of their tickets. She politely replied, “Sir I apologize but we do not accept digital tickets.  We don’t have anyway to process them. In order to see the show you will need to provide the printed tickets.”  He tries to convince her to make an exception but with no such luck.

At this point the guy is not happy, as home is back in the East Bay and there is no person or place he knows near the venue where he can find a printer to print the tickets.  So his wife questions, “What about the AppStore? Can we find a place to print them?”  Apparently, his e-tickets were on his iPhone so he pulls out his phone and performs a quick search in the AppStore for “Mobile Print” apps and comes across Breezy.

He reads about the Breezy Partner Network and the ability to GPS locate public print locations nearby on a map in the app. He downloads the Breezy app, signs up and pastes the tickets into the clipboard and then chooses “Find Nearby Public Printers” to print.  The Breezy App locates a few different FedEx Office locations within a stone's throw of the show. They print the tickets to the nearest location that happened to be within walking distance. They make the 10-15 min walk to the FedEx Office location and show the release code from the recently printed folder to the FedEx staff member who prints out their tickets. They pay for the page and are on their way back to the venue having only missed about 20-30 minutes of the opening act.

They hand over their “paper tickets” and head in and enjoy the remainder of the opening band before the main act comes on stage. They finish out their date night on a high note! I never got the guy's name and this exchange lasted all of 10 minutes or so, but it is certainly the most fun random interaction and user story I’ve heard to date. I couldn’t pass up sharing with you all.

So don’t worry, Breezy’s got your date night covered! Rock On!

Breezy Certified MAP-READY For Mocana Security Focused Customers

Mocana Enterprise and Government Customers Can Now Utilize Breezy's MAP-READY App For Secure Mobile Printing.

Oakland, Calif., March 07, 2013 – Breezy, an early adopter of Mocana's MAP Developers Program, has completed wrap testing of the Breezy app for Android mobile devices and is now certified MAP-READY for Mocana customers.

Mocana, the app security leader, introduced the Mocana MAP Developers Program on February 25, 2013 to help mobile app developers quickly meet best-in-class security requirements for enterprise customers. The program lets developers “test-wrap” their apps with Mocana’s Mobile App Protection™ (MAP) for free to prepare their apps for more security-conscious enterprise and government customers. After testing, developers can display a MAP-READY logo to let prospective customers know they can easily custom-secure those apps with Mocana MAP.

“Whether an app is built in-house, by a contractor or by a dedicated third-party ISV, most mobile application developers don’t have the resources, time or crypto expertise to custom-secure their app for each enterprise customer. But most enterprise customers demand just that,” said Kurt Stammberger, CISSP and vice president of market development at Mocana. “MAP lets developers focus on creating amazing apps while satisfying enterprise security requirements, especially in BYOD contexts.”

The MAP Developers Program (www.mocana.com/mdp) provides mobile developers with free access to the new MAP Testing Workbench™, an online self-certification service that allows them to test-wrap their apps with Mocana security. The MAP Testing Workbench helps developers reduce their security engineering costs while simultaneously opening up new enterprise markets for their apps. Free support from Mocana is available to help developers through the testing process.

The program also offers developers’ marketing colleagues a variety of opportunities to co-market with Mocana, including joint webinars, speaking slots at the Amphion Forum, joint promotions and more.

According to Stammberger, enterprises using MAP can customize apps they deploy with fine-grained security policies in seconds. Strong authentication, FIPS 140-2 data-at-rest encryption and per-app VPNs are just a few of the options available. Mocana MAP can apply new security features to almost any Android™ or iOS app.

Ron Goins, chief operating officer at NitroDesk, said, “We are excited to offer the Mocana MAP solution as an integrated part of TouchDown for Government Agencies. Making TouchDown Exchange™ MAP-READY gives decision makers the ability to adapt their applications on the fly, so that as roles change within the enterprise, security concerns can be addressed almost instantly. The MAP wrapping process is so fast there is no longer a barrier to deployment.”

With more than 2 million users, TouchDown is the leading ActiveSync email solution for securing corporate email on mobile devices.

“Working collaboratively with Mocana allows us to deliver a secure and intuitive mobile web browser for the enterprise,” said Yongzhi Yang, CEO at Dolphin, maker of the world’s most popular third-party mobile browser. “Making Dolphin for Business MAP-READY will provide corporate users with the option to secure access to both the Web and corporate networks, while also providing data-at-rest encryption.”

“Atimi knows all the issues in the enterprise space around applications and security, and we consider Mocana MAP to be the most elegant security solution for our clients,” said Scott Michaels, executive vice president, Atimi Software. “We are excited about the new MAP Developers Program, and honored to partner with Mocana to deliver secure, robust enterprise applications within the tight timelines that are prevalent in mobile.”

“The MAP Developers Program puts bigtincan in the perfect position to give our customers the next level of protection,” said Patrick Welch, president and COO of bigtincan. “Now, our customers are able to roll out our platform faster, while meeting the stringent security requirements of the government and financial sectors. Our aim is to improve enterprise productivity for the mobile workforce, and our partnership with Mocana allows us to do so with an added level of security for mobile devices.”

“Making Breezy MAP-READY was an easy decision for us, and we’re proud to be among the early adopters,” said Jared Hansen, CEO of Breezy, the leading secure mobile printing service. “The credibility of Mocana in security-sensitive markets opens up exciting new opportunities and accounts for Breezy.”

Breezy ensures Mocana's customers can print securely from their mobile devices whenever and wherever business requires.

Bermuda Ranks Breezy #3 on Apple's App Store What's Hot List

Many disappearances have occurred in the famed Bermuda Triangle but secure mobile printing is not one of them.

Today's fun fact is that Breezy has been steadily climbing the charts in Apple's App Store "What's Hot List of Productivity Apps" for the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda.

"Just a few weeks back we were at number 23 and now Breezy occupies the number 3 spot on the list," said James Graham, Sr. Engineer at Breezy. "Obviously, our coastal neighbors take security and mobility as importantly as sun, sand and good surf."

It may come as a surprise to many but Bermuda claimed to have had the highest GDP per capita at one time and their economy is primarily made up of off-shore finance, insurance, reinsurance and tourism, which are all sectors of business where Breezy products are trusted and utilized.

Security is the foundation of Breezy's platform and the military grade on-device encryption of data is just one of the many features that sets us apart from our competition. The legal, financial and professional services industries rely on Breezy to gain mobility and productivity while helping them adhere to the stringent government regulations that protect priveledged client information.

Follow Bermuda's good example, and give Breezy a try!

How to Add Print Support to Your App in Under 5 Minutes

Since launching the Breezy Button last week, we've had a few questions from the developer community about how it works in practice.

Does it really work?, they asked.
